Dee, thanks so much for the Mantique rec ! I went yesterday and practically tried on every plus size thing they had ! I ended up with two great tops that are so fashionable and cool that I was practically giggling while the rang them up. I bought one that is white cotton with tiny lime green sprigs embroidered on it and has lime green trim that is gathered/elasticsized around the armholes and neck which means no gaps in the underarm area that show my bra ! YAY ! The other one is hot pink t-shirt material (slightly stretchy) that crosses over in front and has a tie at the back. Very sexy ! The only bummer was that they had a lot of spaghetti strap tops and I've gotta wear a pretty substantial bra so those were a no go. I'm going to keep checking in since they said they get new stcok quite often.
Thanks again, kathy

I'm glad it worked out for you! Which one did you go to?
I don't wear tanks often, but I also have a convertible bra (you can get really good ones at lane bryant in the states) and I wear the see through straps. They aren't so comfortable, but they solve the bra strap problem.

Hi Dee, I went to the one in Kits on 4th Ave. Staff seemed really nice. I was worried that only the Mantique out in Guildford would carry the plus sizes like what happened with Fairweather. Only the Fairweather in Surrey carried plus sizes and when I asked the staff about it they said that plus sizes didn't fit in with their "downtown clientele" in the Pacific Centre Fairweather. WTF ? Apparently nobody who is plus sized is allowed to live/work/shop downtown. Gimme a break !
To make a long story short, I was so happy to see those plus sizes at Mantique ! I'm also, eyeing those convertible style bras on the Lane Bryant website. Did I tell you that my Seven7 jeans that I ordered fron them turned out to be way too big ?!? I followed the size chart precisely (I have done a lot of online shopping) even though I thought it was a bit ungenerous. I ordered size 22 but really I need an 18 or 20 at the most. The hip size for 22 was 49" which is what mine are so a word to the wise if you plan to order them , go a size smaller ! (ignore the stupid chart)

That's too bad about your jeans. I remember when Fairweather in Guilford had plus size. They had some good items. If you decide not to return your 7 jeans to LB, i'd be interested, i'm generally a 22 on the bottom!
I hate size charts, I have a big waist and relatively small hips (apple shaped), so it's hard to go by the numbers.

Apparently nobody who is plus sized is allowed to live/work/shop downtown. Gimme a break ! The same thing happens with Winners. Apparently if you live in the 'burbs you can get great plus-size selections there, but if you are an in-towner (like I am), you're SOL. It is SO frustrating, and is blatant discrimination that is caused by ignorance. Larger women are used to spending lots of money on clothes (generally because our clothes cost more). I wish SOME chain store in Vancouver would take a chance and actually cultivate a dedicated plus-size market for women who want stylish, wearable, HIGH QUALITY clothes in all styles - I know I'm not the only "bodacious" woman who prefers to do her shopping where she lives instead of schlepping out to the 'burbs (and burning gas...) What can we do about this? Letter campaigns? Get the media involved somehow? I'm sick of sending my hard earned dollars south of the border -- and I'm from there!

I hear you guys on so many points. The whole spaghetti strap tank top dilemna is a pain in my arse. I love bodascious clothes, but tend to not dress so chick everyday, so need general clothes but with fashion funk at a reasonable price. Not to mention, the up the price of plus size, but don't cut the price on petite sizes...
I've thought about ordering online, but doesn't the cost of shipping and the exchange rates and customs kill you?

:-[I just wanted to say that I had tried on the new plus size line at Mantique in Guildford and discovered that they had, like many other companies doing plus sizes, just increased the regular sized clothing up a little bit but not the cuts of the clothing, so their 3x was like a 1-2x. It was so annoying. Also I just recently went back to mantique in Guildford and it looks like they aren't going to carry the plus sizes anymore because they have taken all of the signage down and had all that was left clothing wise on a sale rack at the back. I love the clothing at Bodacious, but realistically, how often can you really afford to spend $150 on one item of clothing? I know that a lot of you order on line, but I could never afford to have to send stuff back if it didn't fit and also having to pay the shipping fees and duties and stuff. Also, I have a hard time finding clothing that fits when I am trying it on, let alone ordering it and hoping that It will work out. I think that the letter writing and emailing to the owners of the larger chains like the Bay, Sears, Wal-mart, Penningtons, Zellers would be a great way to start simply because of the fact that when you go into these stores, the clothing selection sucks, the displays have no love put into them, half of the plus size section is sale racks for the other sizes and the quality is not all that good. It makes me nuts to see all of these cool clothes that could totally be adapted to a plus size and they never do.
